Car-to-Car Communication Security on Reconfigurable Hardware

Glas, B.; Sander, O.; Stuckert, V.; Mueller-Glaser, K. D.; Becker, J.

To get more information about oncoming road and traffic situations, exchange of data between cars is a large benefit. But relying on data obtained from other cars and hence sensors not under direct control of the system, guaranteeing trustworthiness and integrity of this data is of paramount importance. This creates the need for security measures for the
data exchange which impose high computational demands to achieve the low latencies needed for safety applications. In this contribution we present a hardware security module allowing efficient calculation and verification of signatures. Implementation as well as integration aspects are being discussed in this paper.
