Microstructural stability of nanostructured fcc metals during cyclic deformation and fatigue

Abstract:

Nanostructured metals suffer from microstructural degradation under mechanical load. The focus of this work is the experimental observation of the microstructure of nanostructured metals under cyclic mechanical load. Ex situ tests were conducted to investigate the large scale behavior while in situ experiments in the TEM allowed to observe the deformation behavior and relate that to the dominant mechanisms.
