Radical Technological Innovation: Case Study of the Friction Disc by SKF

Abstract:

On a long-term basis it is essential for technology driven companies to create and employ radical technological innovations to stay competitive. In the paper at hand, a concrete case has been studied to analyze the critical success factors for such an endeavor. SKF engineers developed an innovative coating system for highly loaded flange couplings to lift the friction coefficient between the contact surfaces. Therewith the power transmission capacity of the drive train could be increased.
