Phase-field modeling of microstructural pattern formation in alloys and geological veins

Abstract:
In the following thesis, the influence of interfacial energy on pattern evolution during diffusive phase transformations is studied using the phase-field method. The numerical investigations of two distinct scientific problems in consideration i.e. pattern formation in alloys and geological veins, suggest a strong influence of interfacial energy on the natural and induced pattern formation in diffusion-controlled regime.
