Exploration of CoII-Based (CoII and CoII-4f) Single Molecule Magnets

Abstract: This thesis describes the synthesis of homo- and hetero-metallic complexes which have been crystallographically and magnetically investigated. Chapter 3 is concerned with the synthesis and characterisation of 3d-4f and 4f complexes using aminopolyalcohol ligands along with co-ligands such as benzoic acid. Chapter 4 describes the synthesis and characterisation of mononuclear CoII, 4f and heterometallic 3d-4f complexes using Schiff-base ligands along as well as with carboxylate co-ligands.
