Abstract (englisch):

Beech LVL is a new engineered wood product for timber structures. The inherent strength of Beech and the homogenisation due to the production process make it a material with very high characteristic strength values. Longitudinal strength values are two to four times as high as the corresponding values for Spruce glulam. A material having such strength properties provides new structural possibilities but also requires new approaches in mechanical connections in order to also reach sufficient load-carrying-capacities in joints. Examples of structures based on Beech LVL show new structural and architectural design solutions.
