Abstract (englisch):

Our aim is to study free nanoparticles with free-electron laser (FEL) radiation in single-particle single-shot
experiments. Therefore, we designed and built a significantly improved preparation system that provides
single, free-floating, nanoscopic samples in high efficiency and precision for X-ray scattering experiments.
We developed a compact von Hámos X-ray spectrometer that will allow us to efficiently take elastic and in-
elastic X-ray spectra of single nanoparticles excited by single FEL pulses. In addition we develop a Thom-
son type ion spectrometer where parallel electric and magnetic fields are uitlized to disentangle masses
and kinetic energies of fast ions created when a nanoparticle absobs photon from an FEL pulse.
