Abstract (englisch):

This presentation will explain the challenges of combined electrochemical-thermal characterisation of Lithium-ion cells by battery calorimetry and how this method helps to improve battery safety by giving important data for advanced BMS diagnostics. Thus topics to be addressed include:
• Combined electrochemical-thermal characterization techniques for cells: battery calorimetry, thermography
• Combination of experiments with multiscale electric, electrochemical and thermal simulations
• Using thermal and thermodynamic and ageing data in BMS
• Ideas for early prediction of thermal runaway
