Overview of research on pulsed power technology and applications at KIT

The Institute for Pulsed Power and Microwave Technology (IHM) at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is doing research, development and technology transfer in the areas of pulsed power and high-power microwave technologies. Applications are ranging from plasma heating in the megawatt power levels for electron-cyclotron resonance heating in future fusion reactors, high-power microwaves for material processing and plasma applications, electro-dynamic fragmentation of compound materials by underwater spark discharge, pulsed electric field processing of biomass for component extraction and for decontamination of wastewater and material processing using pulsed electron beams. This presentation will give an overview on the institute’s activities in the field of pulsed power technology and related applications.
