Feasibility vs. Optimality in Distributed AC OPF - A Case Study Considering ADMM and ALADIN [in press]

Abstract (englisch):
This paper investigates the role of feasible initial guesses in solving Optimal Power Flow (OPF) problems in a distributed fashion. Secifically, we discuss the behavious of ADMM for large values of the penalization parameter "rho" leading to slow progress in twords the optimal solution. Furthermore, we show analytically that a feasible initialization combined with high penalization parameters might lead to pre-mature convergence of ADMM. We illustrate our findings using the IEEE57 bus system and comparing to ALADIN.
