Cooperative Congestion Control for Cyber-Physical Systems

Jung, Markus; Zitterbart, Martina

Abstract (englisch):

Networked cyber-physical systems commonly rely on communication scheduling mechanisms to provide control applications strict timing guarantees. In this work we propose a Cooperative Congestion Control (CoCC) to enable control applications to cooperatively share a common network infrastructure without the need for such complex scheduling mechanisms. Cooperation between congestion control and control applications enables CoCC to dynamically balance resource demands such that fairness w.r.t. the quality of control is achieved. Our evaluation results show that CoCC efficiently avoids congestion and thus harmful delays and losses. CoCC offers fast convergence and good scalability at a low overhead due to its distributed computation scheme.
