Abstract:

In recent years, Germany has expanded its renewable energy generation capacity, particularly in the area of wind power putting higher strain on the electrical transmission grid. The Power-to-Gas (PtG) technology offers the possibility to alleviate this strain, and at the same time make energy transmission more flexible. To investigate the influence of produced gas based on PtG technology on the gas transmission grid, this paper implements a model for the analysis of transient gas flows in the pipelines. The model focuses on the gas transmission grid and includes elements such as gas pipelines and compressor stations and is based on real data. The differential equations enable a dynamic simulation showing the gas flow propagation through each pipeline as well as the line pack of every pipeline. The change in pressure and pipeline capacity over time can be tracked, providing an analysis of the pipeline loading depending on different seasons and wind feed-in.
