Um die Vorteile der standortverteilten Produktentwicklung ausschöpfen zu können, ist es notwendig, die Herausforderungen der standortverteilten Produktentwicklung frühzeitig zu erkennen und anzugehen. Daher ist das Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit die Entwicklung einer Methode, die Produktentwicklungsteams dazu befähigt, Verbesserungspotenziale der standortverteilten Zusammenarbeit innerhalb einer Organisation basierend auf der individuellen Entwicklungssituation zu identifizieren und zu erschließen.
Dazu wird aufbauend auf den Grundlagen des Stands der Forschung ein Verständnis für die Charakteristika der standortverteilten Produktentwicklung geschaffen. ... mehrDurch die Analyse möglicher Ursachen von Herausforderungen in standortverteilten Produktentstehungsaktivitäten in den Dimensionen Mensch, Technologie und Organisation werden zunächst Indikatoren möglicher negativer Auswirkungen auf die Effizienz und Effektivität in der standortverteilten Produktentwicklung abgeleitet. Diese werden zu sechs Kritikalitätsfaktoren zusammengefasst: Digitale Infrastruktur, Planung und Prozesse, Entwicklungsteam, Entwicklungsaufgabe, Ressourcenverfügbarkeit sowie Kommunikation und Wissenstransfer. Anschließend werden 10 Handlungsfelder der Produktentwicklung identifiziert, welche einen entscheidenden Einfluss auf den Erfolg von standortverteilten Produktentwicklungsprozessen aufweisen und damit als Stellhebel zum Entgegenwirken der Ursachen negativer Auswirkungen auf die Effizienz und Effektivität dienen. Zu den einflussreichsten Handlungsfeldern zählen Zielverständnis und Vision, Informationen, Daten und Wissensmanagement sowie (virtuelle) Kommunikation und Zusammenarbeit.
Anschließend wird anhand des Zielsystems an eine Methode zur Befähigung von Produktenwicklungsteams zur Identifikation und Erschließung von Verbesserungspotenzialen in der standortverteilten Zusammenarbeit die EDiT-Methode (Enabling Distributed Teams) iterativ entwickelt. Die EDiT-Methode unterstützt einen, auf die standortverteilte Produktentwicklung ausgelegten Problemlösungsprozess entlang der SPALTEN-Methode zur kontinuierlichen Verbesserung der standortverteilten Zusammenarbeit. Um die situationsgerechte Anpassung und nutzerzentrierte Anwendung der EDiT-Methode zu unterstützen, wird die Methode in einem Online Leitfaden umgesetzt und mithilfe von vier Anwendungsvarianten Spiel Team Space, Workshop-Anwendung, Retrospektive und individuelle Tools veranschaulicht.
Zur Analyse des Beitrags, den die Anwendung der entwickelten EDiT-Methode leistet, wird die EDiT-Methode iterativ in unterschiedlichen Reifegraden sowie in den Validierungsumgebungen Feld, Live-Lab und Labor insgesamt in neun Validierungsiterationen angewendet. Die Auswertung der Validierungsiterationen legt dar, dass sich durch die Anwendung, der in dieser Arbeit entwickelten Methode, individuelle Verbesserungspotenziale der standortverteilten Zusammenarbeit in den Produktentwicklungsaktivitäten identifizieren und erschließen lassen. Dies zeigt sich insbesondere in den quantitativen Nachweisen des Effekts, die statistisch signifikante Verbesserungen in den betrachteten Potenzialfeldern deutlich machen.

In order to exploit the benefits of distributed product development, it is necessary to identify and address the challenges of distributed product development at an early stage. Therefore, the goal of this thesis is to develop a method that enables product development teams within one organization to identify and exploit improvement potentials of distributed collaboration based on the individual development situation.
Therefore, an understanding of the characteristics of distributed product development is created based on the fundamentals of the state of the art. By analyzing possible causes of challenges in distributed product development activities in the dimensions human, technology and organization, indicators of possible negative effects on efficiency and effectiveness in distributed product development are first derived. ... mehrThese are combined into six criticality factors: Digital infrastructure, planning and process, development team, development task, availability of resources, and communication and knowledge transfer. Subsequently, 10 fields of action of distributed product development are identified which have a decisive influence on the success of distributed product development processes and thus serve as levers to counteract the causes of negative effects on efficiency and effectiveness. The most influential fields of action include understanding of goal and vision, information, data and knowledge management, and (virtual) communication and collaboration.
Subsequently, based on the system of objectives, a method for enabling product development teams to identify and exploit improvement potential of distributed collaboration is iteratively developed, called the EDiT method (Enabling Distributed Teams). The EDiT method supports a problem-solving process designed for distributed product development along the SPALTEN method for continuous improvement of distributed collaboration. To support the situation-adequate adaptation and user-centered application of the EDiT method, the method is implemented in a guideline and illustrated by four application variants: Game Team Space, Workshop Application, Retrospective and Individual Tools.
To analyze the contribution of the application of the developed EDiT method, the EDiT method is applied iteratively in different maturity levels. The validation environments field, Live-Lab and laboratory are used, leading to a total of nine validation iterations. The evaluation of the validation iterations reveals that by applying the method developed in this thesis, individual improvement potentials of distributed collaboration in product development activities can be identified and exploited. This is particularly evident in the quantitative results of the effect which show statistically significant improvements in the considered fields of potential.
