Abstract (englisch):

The presentation introduces the Python tool with web GUI, which extracts the metadata attributes enclosed in the TIFF image file generated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and maps them to the metadata schema published in 2021, which reached a consensus within the user communities of the projects involved, and produces a downloadable JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) metadata document. The document can be further enriched manually in order to provide the attributes of the schema which are not available in the TIFF file using an Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) that supports JSON import or an in-house developed custom JavaScript interface. Once the metadata document is complete, it can be stored in a metadata repository like the MetaStore and linked to the persistent identifier of the repository where the data it describes is deposited, with the added advantage of schema registration and metadata validation. The tool thus enables materials scientists to describe their data with rich metadata following the guidelines provided by FAIR principles, reducing the amount of time needed to manually collect metadata attributes. The presentation also included a live demonstration of how the SEM metadata extraction and mapping tool can be used. ... mehr
