Abstract (englisch):
Starting from historic discoveries, milestones and technology bricks, the motivation and actual state of selected large scale applications is introduced.
Recent changes in boundary conditions, trends in the field and in the environment and novel approaches stimulate new options for large scale applications (planned examples: power transmission lines and rotating machines).
HTS is an enabler for novel applications – with some limitations.
Open research questions.
