Abstract:

Due to the open legal framework of ride-pooling, the implementation in different spatial areas can differ a lot. Hence, little knowledge exists on its influence on customer perception and, consequently, their user behavior. The present study addresses this research gap by comparing the findings of two interview studies in Germany with users of a private ride-pooling service called “MOIA” (N=13) in Hamburg and a public-transport integrated service called “fips” (N=7) in Mannheim. Many differences in perception, behavior and especially motives to use the respective service appeared: fips users report objective advantages (e.g., travel time savings and low prices). In contrast, MOIA users stress convenience, comfort and express emotional motives for their use.
