Abstract:
The projects aims at giving to students some insights into the role of a geophysicist and seismic measurements in the operation of a geothermal field, here the Bruchsal site. We take the student through a scientific approach: from observation and initial hypothesis, to the realization of scientific measurements and the analysis of the data acquired to confirm or invalidate the hypothesis. The projects aims at bringing a group of pupils to work as a seismologist who wants to measure ground vibrations and background noise at different locations around the Bruchsal geothermal site and find the one with lowest background noise. The project applies to a class of ~ 10 / 15 pupils. It is subdivided in divided into 5 modules (1h30 or 3h each). Associated tasks cover a wide range of fields like mathematics and physics, IT and coding, fieldwork and observations. The tasks / involvement may vary according to the interest of each pupil. All pupils take part to the data analysis and draw conclusions together. The projects was carried out in English. The pdf document combines the pdf presentations of the different modules in class, as well as the additional material given to the students. ... mehrThis includes the python codes used for data processing.
