Abstract (englisch):

The large internal drum test bench (GRIPS) at the Institute of Vehicle Systems Technology (FAST) allows the experimental analysis of car and truck tires under quasi-stationary and dynamic loads on various road surfaces. It consists of a rotating drum with a diameter of 4.5 meters, on the inside of which a tire is tested. The wheel is mounted on a hexapod by using a measuring hub, which enables different control movements and load conditions. The tire can be accelerated, braked, and steered in order to simulate a variety of driving scenarios.
The test bench can be operated either with pre-programmed test programs or by a vehicle dynamics simulation (IPG TruckMaker), using the simulation data as target values for the test bench's actuators. The “Hardware-in-the-Loop” (HiL) principle is applied by incorporating the feedback from the sensors into the simulation. This enables the tire behavior during operation to be considered in real time, allowing for an adaptive test sequence.
Tire-in-the-loop (TiL) simulation allows tire behavior and its influence on vehicle characteristics, such as energy consumption, braking and driving dynamics, to be analyzed more precisely. ... mehr
