Personal observations by the author from 2016 on the state of field ecology and geobotany. He notes that the “Feld-Wald – und Wiesen Geographen (field, forest and meadow geographers) ” or “géographes-botanistes-explorateurs universitaires” are becoming less and less important in the university sector, both in the French-speaking world and in German-speaking countries. Nevertheless, the author is convinced that scientific ecology needs a strong field-ecological basis.
