Abstract:

This archive contains research data presented in the manuscript "Sensitivities of Simulated Mixed-phase Arctic Multilayer Clouds to Primary and Secondary Ice Processes" with DOI: 10.5194/egusphere-2024-2988. In this study, the microphysical sensitivity of Arctic mixed-phase multilayer clouds are examined via two case studies observed during the MOSAiC campaign in September 2020. Sensitivity simulations on cloud droplet activation, primary ice, and secondary ice processes were performed. The ICON model is used to model these clouds and observational data from the MOSAiC campaign is used to constrain and evaluate the model.

The files are in NetCDF format and contain:
Cloud hydrometeor specific mass content (kg kg-1) is identified by:
cloud droplets - qc
cloud ice - qi
snow - qs
graupel - qg
drizzle and rain - qr
specific humidity - qv

Number concentrations are similarly defined with 'n' (qnc, qni, qns, qng, qnr, in units kg-1).

Process rates can be identified by the 'd' for diagnostics (with units kgkg-1 hour or kg-1 hour-1 for number concentrations) and are accumulated over time:
