Abstract:

Dataset containing process simulation of thermoforming of continuous fiber-reinforced composite materials

This dataset contains process simulation data for the thermoforming of continuous fiber-reinforced composite materials.A total of 3994 forming simulations are included in the data set.The data were generated using Abaqus/Explicit, a commercial finite element software, together with user-defined material subroutines to describe the membrane, bending, and inter-ply material behavior. The considered simulation setup and material models were experimentally validated and published by Dörr et al. (2017).

The considered tool geometry has a complex shape with industrial complexity, denoted as "Napf," where "U_Napf" is the die and "S_Napf" is the stamp geometry. The processed laminate consists of two plies, initially oriented at 0° and 90° relative to the 1-direction of the global simulation coordinate system. The dataset considers four different total process times within industrially relevant ranges: 1.6 s, 3.2 s, 4.8 s, and 6.4 s.The results for each simulation are provided at ten equidistant points in time, along with the initial state.
