SFCL and Hybrid DC Circuit Breaker for Electric Aircraft DC Network

Abstract:

Large-scale electric aircraft is a disruptive technology to address the environmental impact of air travel. Fault current limitation and interruption technology is crucial to realise the safety and reliability of the electric aircraft under different fault conditions, in particular for large-scale electric aircraft using DC distribution network. Fault management in DC networks however is much more challenging than AC networks. This paper proposes to integrate a resistive SFCL with a hybrid DC circuit breaker so that the SFCL limits the fault current to acceptable levels in DC networks allowing the hybrid DC circuit breakers to operate quickly and reliably.
