Multiscale simulation of fiber-reinforced thermoplastics accounting for damage

Abstract:
This work presents efficient algorithms for the generation of periodic microstructures for short and long fiber reinforced polymers. To ensure the representativity of the synthetic microstructures, the main descriptors of the microstructure are taken into account. In addition, a novel class of linear-elastic isotropic damage models with damage softening behavior is developed. To do so, convex regularization techniques are applied to a classical isotropic damage model with damage rate limitation.
