Abstract:

This collection of documents provides the results of the CAIRT Phase A Mission Performance andRequirement Consolidation (PerReC) activities. PerReC reviewed the scientific objectives and societalimpact of the CAIRT mission, including a consolidation of the observation requirements. AlgorithmTheoretical Baseline Documents (ATBDs) were developed to describe the retrieval of primary Level-2 andLevel-2b products. A scientific Workbench (SWB) was developed and used for a comprehensiveperformance assessment. PerReC provided a set of six impact studies, to show science closure of theprimary mission objectives and impact in science applications. These included constraining the middleatmosphere circulation through age-of-air, consistent simulation of the dynamic driving and tracespecies impact of a sudden stratospheric warming, detection and characterization of geoengineering viastratospheric sulphur injection, Observing System Simulation Experiments for ozone and water vapour inthe upper troposphere/lower stratosphere, an investigation of stratospheric composition for weatherand climate prediction, and the detection of volcanic ash for aviation safety.
