Non-LTE error assessment for CAIRT

Abstract:

This supplement provides a non-LTE error assessment for the Earth Explorer 11 candidate mission CAIRT(the Changing-Atmosphere Infra-Red Tomography Explorer). Section 1 outlines the non-LTE assessmentstrategy that followed in order to assess non-LTE related errors in CAIRT’s targeted geophysical (L2) quantities.Section 2 briefly describes the non-LTE models used in the retrievals and the related uncertainties. Atable with a summary of the uncertainties is provided. Section 3 provides a table identifying the non-LTEprocesses leading to errors overcoming CAIRT’s L2 data requirements. The estimations were made basedon Linear Performace simulator (LPEv2) simulations and the Extended Reference Scenario (ERS).
