Abstract:

Abstract (englisch):

The transition metal copper (Cu) is an essential trace element for the human body and is widely used in industrial and clinical applications. In recent years, Cu-containing nanoparticles (NP) attracted considerable attention due to their favorable physicochemical properties. However, the increasing use of Cu, particularly as copper(II) oxide (CuO) nanoparticles (CuO NP), raises concerns regarding human health. CuO NP were shown to be substantially more toxic than CuO microparticles or dissolved Cu ions in lung cells (Strauch et al., 2017). Yet, mechanistic studies comparing organ-relevant cell models remain limited. ... mehr
