Abstract:

Abstract (englisch):

Interface-controlled processes govern both the evolution of pore space in geological porous media and the integrity of metallic installations exposed to reactive subsurface fluids. This thesis develops and applies multiphysics phase-field methodology to investigate how microscale interface motion, morphology, anisotropy, and microstructural heterogeneity control macroscopic transport and failure behavior. Three representative subsurface phenomena are considered: crystallographically controlled K-feldspar dissolution, clay-mediated quartz cementation in sandstones, and pitting corrosion with pressure-induced cracking in metallic systems.
