Abstract:

The QUENCH-LOCA project on out-of-pile bundle tests under conditions of a loss of coolant reactor accident is integral part of the Nuclear Safety Program at the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology. The overall objective of this project is the investigation of ballooning, burst and secondary hydrogen uptake of the fuel cladding tubes under design basis accident conditions. The project was started with the QUENCH-L0 scoping test used 21 heated rods with as-received Zircaloy-4 claddings.
