Determination of energy and mass of cosmic rays using air shower radio emission

Abstract:

Coherent radio emission from extensive air showers at MHz frequencies is exploited. The sensitivity to the mass composition as well as the reconstruction of the energy of the primary particle are investigated by leveraging the features of the radio lateral distribution function. Based on (REAS3)-simulation predictions, a method is developed and directly applied on LOPES measurements. The possibility to reconstruct both energy and Xmax using radio data, with relatively high precision, is showed.
