Microbial Lipid Production with Oleaginous Yeasts

Abstract:
Oleaginous microorganisms are able to convert carbon sources into storage lipids which are suited for diverse industrial applications as alternative for plant oil, fossil fuels and fish oil. A coupled process of oleaginous yeast and microalgae was performed to recycle the emitted greenhouse gas CO2 produced by the heterotrophic yeast. Furthermore, three yeast isolates from soil samples were identified as oleaginous: Cryptococcus podzolicus, Trichosporon porosum, Pichia segobiensis.
