Study on the effect of speciation on radionuclide mobilization - C-14 speciation in irradiated Zircaloy-4 cladding and nitrate/chloride interaction with An(III)/Ln(III)

Abstract:

In the present Ph.D. thesis, the interaction of trivalent actinides/lanthanides with nitrate and chloride in dilute to concentrated saline systems, with the aim of deriving comprehensive thermodynamic models and providing robust inputs for source term estimations is investigated. Furthermore, the present work aims at an accurate determination of the inventory of various radionuclides present in irradiated Zircaloy-4, with further focus on the chemical form of C-14 released from the Zr-alloy.
