Abstract:

The Earth system is subject to various time-varying changes. Those that are associated with significant mass shifts can be investigated by satellite-based monitoring of the Earth’s gravitational field. Satellite-based geodetic sensors open up the possibility of recording both temporal and spatial variations in mass. Monthly solutions for the Earth’s time-varying gravitational potential are generated from these data, the long- to medium-wave components of which are determined very precisely. Gravity field models based on the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE, GRACE-FO) mission are provided as monthly solutions by various evaluation centers in the form of spherical function models. In this scientific paper, the solutions of the GFZ (Helmholtz Center Potsdam - German Research Center for Geosciences) are to be used.
They can be obtained in Release 6 and the DDK5 filter from the website of the International Centre for Global Earth Models (ICGEM) http://icgem.gfz-potsdam.de/home.
In the current implementation of the evaluation routines at the GIK, potential values are synthesized as observation quantities in order to obtain the TWS from them using an inverse tesseroid approach. ... mehr
