Lightweight Aggregates from Sewage Sludge

In the most industrial countries the reuse of sewage sludge is
solved no satisfactory.
The agriculture use is opposed to a series of arguments -
without discussion, if right or wrong - and the option of
landfill is closed in Germany from the year 2005 on. The
further exclusively practiced combustion in special facilities
counts as the most expensive method and alike the nowadays
propagated co-combustion in coal-fired power stations has the
problem of onset of ashes.
An alternative concept is introduced in this present work, that
uses both the substantial and energy characteristics of the
sewage sludge: PORODUR - the production of lightweight
aggregates. A similar process is the production of expanded clay:
For this method it is used such clay, which contains either
fine-distributed organic matter or which will be added
separately coal powder, oil or other analogical substances.
From this raw material pellets are formed and put to a thermal
treatment composed of preheating, baking and cooling. During the
