Abstract (englisch):
This blog post describes and remembers the “Landes forest fire of August 1949” which was the deadliest forest fire in Europe since World War II. The article includes also a book review of Joan Deville „l’incendie meurtrier dans la forêt des landes“. The article ends with the conclusion, that climate change will cause more deadly forest fires in (non-Mediterranean) France and Germany similar to the “Landes forest fire of 1949” or the “Fire on the Lüneburg Heath of 1975” in Germany.
